Dental implants are attachment points that can be placed in various positions in the mouth. These are made of the same high-tech materials that are used in knee or hip replacements. A dental implant may have a custom crown placed over it to replace a single tooth. Multiple implants may be used to anchor dental bridges, or even be used as anchors to keep a denture firmly in place, eliminating the need for adhesives. If you might benefit from an implant, our doctors can provide you with a consultation on whether your bone structure is fit for implants and can guide you through your implant process from start to finish.
When you lose a tooth, there are several different ways in which you can replace it. One of the most popular choices is the use of a dental bridge. With a bridge, you utilize the teeth that surround your missing tooth and literally bridge the gap where your tooth used to be. This is done by creating two crowns on the teeth which border your gap and filling in the empty space with a pontic, or false tooth, that is attached to these crowns. By utilizing your existing teeth, you create a durable, permanent solution to your missing tooth.
Immediate Fixed Bridges
One of the most dreaded dental concern people will have is the loss of one or more front teeth. This is sometimes needed due to extensive cavities, gum problems, or trauma. In most cases, our team at Sunridge Dental Care can provide excellent treatment by not only eliminating the need to ever go without a front tooth, but also improving the existing smile. This can be done using an immediate fixed bridge. With this procedure a highly esthetic temporary bridge is fabricated before any treatment is started. We can then remove the problem tooth and place a temporary bridge the same day. After healing has occurred, we will then make impressions for a final bridge made from a glass-ceramic material to not only replace the missing tooth , but improve the appearance of your smile.
For patients who are in need of a full arch or full mouth tooth replacement, dentures are the traditional, proven method for those who have lost teeth. When you come into Sunridge Dental, we will evaluate whether you need a full or partial denture and develop a plan for your individual set of dentures. In some cases, it may be better to remove some of your remaining teeth so you can have a more effective set. All of our dentures are custom made for your mouth, so they will be as comfortable as possible. Our custom process allows for your input together we can achieve the smile that you want. Although they aren’t your real teeth, it is important to develop a new daily hygiene routine for your dentures, and the Sunridge, professionals will help you do just that!
Partial Dentures (Partials)
Many times a person may have one or more missing or bad teeth but have several others that are strong and healthy. In these situations, a removable partial denture may be a good option. Partials are custom made to clasp onto the remaining teeth and replace the teeth that are missing. These removable appliances are a lower cost alternative to dental bridges and implants, yet they can effectively improve smile/esthetics as well as function. Partials can also be made prior to a tooth extraction to avoid any time without a tooth. Please discuss this option with your doctor to see if this is a good treatment plan for you.
Immediate (Same-Day) Dentures and Partials
One of the greatest hurdles for people who have poor teeth and need a denture is the fear of being without teeth during the healing and denture fabrication phases. In many cases we can develop a plan to make a denture or partial denture before the front teeth are removed. We can then deliver your denture the same day the teeth are removed- eliminating any time without teeth. Please talk with our knowledgeable staff to find out if this is a good option for you.
Implant Denture Retention
With a little practice, most people can tolerate wearing dentures quite well. Because of individual factors, some people struggle with keeping their dentures in place, especially lower dentures. For those who struggle or for those who just want more security and confidence that their dentures will be kept in place, we offer implant denture retention. Depending upon the clinical situation, we may place between two and four implants into the jaw and then modify the denture so that it securely clips onto and off of the implants. With implant retained dentures, you can dismiss any anxiety that your dentures will accidentally slip out of position!
